Communications and Reporting Officer – AO 7

Temporary position, 40 hours per week - 3 months is based in Darwin

Primary Objective: Provide proactive strategic communications advice and support to the Remote Program team and provide advice and guidance on the creation and implementation of communication strategies.

Context: This position works within the newly established Remote Program Team which is responsible for delivering the Northern Territory Governments Remote Housing Investment Package, 10 year program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic advice on communications, community engagement and marketing activities for the division.
  2. Provide high level strategic public relations and crisis communication advice including journalistic and editing expertise in partnership with the department’s internal communications branch.
  3. Build and maintain strong, effective professional relationships both within and across agencies, government and non-government, to improve communication outcomes for the Program.Work with the departments partner NTG agencies and stakeholders to proactively manage communication activities related to the Remote Program Team.
  4. Operate as the key point of liaison for the division’s internal ministerial and departmental communications and media managers in regards to the Remote Program Team and provide timely information, reports and responses as required.
  5. Plan and implement a range of communication strategies and plans in line with the Remote Program Delivery Office strategic objectives, government policies, guidelines and initiatives.
  6. Prepare ministerial releases, statements, speeches, correspondence, reports and cabinet submissions as required.

 

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Highly developed relationship management skills, including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes for the Program in high pressure situations.
  2. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and logically, with a capacity for problem solving and analytical thinking, including in a crisis, high pressure situations and in a deadline driven environment.
  3. Specialised writing and communication skills including proofreading, editing and an ability to translate technical information into plain English.
  4. A self-starter with a high level of motivation and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities within a dynamic environment, including preparedness to work after hours.
  5. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, including preparedness to travel to remote communities.
