Position Description

The Social Worker is accountable under broad direction to undertake complex social work services and activities at Williamstown NSW. They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, generalist social work practices and procedures in accordance with the clients mission and business objectives. They will work independently having some authority and discretion to investigate information from sources and explore innovative approaches to support the longer-term business objectives.

Social Worker will use their initiative and experience to research, analyse, plan, review and adjust priorities and work activities to meet business outcomes. They will undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence providing detailed technical, professional and procedural advice in relation to complex social work and generalist practice services and activities.

Social Worker may have considerable stakeholder engagement and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and deliver services to develop a clear understanding of the methodology and practices to achieve outcomes.

Social Worker may be a team coach or lead a small operational team and is expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a workgroup. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

Position Objective

  1. Deliver social work processes and services in accordance with current policies, directives and relevant legislation.
  2. Provide complex social work services in a generalist practice framework, including comprehensive assessments, bereavement support, brief intervention and referrals to enhance the social functioning of the client’s personnel and their families.
  3. Develop complex briefs, reports and other correspondence in relation to cases, Commissions of Inquiry and critical incidents.
  4. Apply knowledge and experience of community and social work best practices to provide advice and contribute to the development of policy and services.
  5. Build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver social work and community initiatives, programs and services.
  6. Liaise with internal and external clients including the client’s personnel, families and community groups to recognise and provide appropriate support in accordance with the client’s policies and procedures.
  7. Interpret and apply policies and procedures to formulate strategies to minimise risks in the delivery of social work services.
  8. Employ established work practices and procedures to maintain, monitor and manage records, data and information associated with all social work activities.
  9. Manage workflows and resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
