As the Senior Communications Advisor, you’ll lead compelling communications and stakeholder initiatives that drive understanding, inspire community confidence, and connect people to the exciting progress happening around them. If you're someone who loves the idea of working at the crossroads of creativity and strategy, this is your on-ramp to something extraordinary.

Duties include:

  • Drive the development, implementation, and management of strategic communication plans and campaigns for projects across the Sunshine Coast Region.
  • Work alongside project delivery teams to craft messaging that connects community members with the social and economic benefits of transport infrastructure.
  • Build strong and enduring stakeholder relationships—whether discussing timelines with contractors or engaging community groups interested in the projects.
  • Create innovative materials (media releases, newsletters, social media content) that keep residents updated on project progress—no jargon, just clear, relatable information.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing senior leaders and project teams with timely and expert advice on communication best practices and engagement strategies.
  • Identify potential challenges before they arise and develop strategies to keep communication flowing smoothly.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in communications, stakeholder and community engagement, or public relations, (preferably in government or infrastructure).
  • An understanding of infrastructure, transport is a bonus—and if you’ve told the success stories of big builds before, we want to hear from you!
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (yes, you know the difference between “stationary” and “stationery”).
  • A proven ability to engage communities, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, and manage messaging with sensitivity—especially in high-profile or fast-paced environments.
  • A proactive, solutions-focussed mindset. If there’s a roadblock, you know how to detour around it.
  • A tertiary qualification in Communications or Public Relations or a related field is highly desirable, along with IAP2 Certification.
