Economic Development/Project Officer

Position Overview
The Economic Development/Project Officer reports to the General Manager in the first instance and is responsible for the duties set out below in respect to the Tiwi Land Council (TLC).
Responsibilities
1. Seek and develop employment and training opportunities on the Tiwi Islands through economic development
2. Promote and support the development of community infrastructure and social enterprises that may promote sustainability
3. Meet with Clan Groups, Traditional Owners, Tiwi businesses, and Tiwi organisations promoting an interest in economic development
4. Develop ideas, concepts and proposals into a business model that may proceed through to a business plan and funding proposal/application whilst managing expectations
5. Liaise and cooperate with the Grants Officer, to support funding applications
6. Work with proponents to develop business plans through:
• Providing guidance, support and direction for new Tiwi business start-ups
• Assist in developing and enhancing business opportunities for existing Tiwi businesses and organisations
• Liaising with Grants Officer once concepts are at a stage deemed ‘funding proposal ready’
7. Take on additional tasks and projects at the direction of GM/CEO
Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant stakeholders
2. Ability to work closely and build relationships with Aboriginal people
3. Highly desirable to have lived and/or worked in a remote Aboriginal community
4. Be detail oriented, organised, have succinct, clear and concise writing skills and be deadline driven
5. Demonstrated ability to write detailed and effective business plans
6. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
7. Be highly proficient with computer programs including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
8. Hold a current NT Drivers Licence and a Working With Children’s Clearance (Ochre Card)
9. Be prepared to travel in small airplanes to remote communities as required
Other information
This position will be based in our Darwin office with travel required to the Tiwi Islands. The position is full-time averaging 36.75 hours per week with remuneration of $111,500p.a. plus superannuation.
