Residential Youth Worker

All Aspects Recruitment & HR Services are currently recruiting for Residential Youth Worker to support Indigenous students in a home away from home environment to complete schooling.

You will be supporting the students out of school hours, arrange and engage in creative, culturally rich programs and support the students to achieve their individual goals.

  • 18 Months engagement with possible extension
  • $58,159 - $61,717 plus 15.4% super, salary sacrifice and district allowance

About our client

Our client, who was established in the early 1970’s provides temporary accommodation and support services across its national network of accommodation facilities, assisting Indigenous Australian to access a broad range of education, employment, health, and other services. Their main purpose is to provide safe, comfortable, culturally appropriate, and affordable short-term accommodation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Service –

  • Work closely with hostel staff to accommodate students’ needs
  • Ensure that clean, neat, and welcoming environment is provided to all students

Hostel Operations –

  • Assist with all aspects of hostel operations
  • Participate in longer-term strategic planning to ensure constant development in hostel facilities
  • Where required, assist with general housekeeping and food preparation duties

Student Services –

  • Support students with routine school activities, including class preparation, provide transport to school/sport/medical appointments
  • Engage with students through group work and culturally appropriate recreational activities
  • Build a rapport with students and focus on positive behaviors and achievements
  • Monitor students supply of clothing, footwear, school material and other belongings
  • Contribute to student’s individual care plans, and identify opportunities for development
  • Have oversight of administrative tasks including student applications, enrollments, ABSTUDY support and student appointments

Professional Service and Community Engagement - 

  • Develop cooperative relationships with school teachers, parents and community members
  • Facilitate productive working relationships with colleagues, local providers and suppliers/contractors
  • Resolve complex issues to ensure a positive, culturally appropriate experience and quality stay

Work, Health & Safety (WHS) Property Maintenance - 

  • Perform all tasks in a manner which upholds commitment to safety of its staff and residents by adhering to relevant Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices
  • Promptly report workplace hazards and WHS issues, including injury or illness, to their manager or Health and Safety Representative (HSR)
  • Report unsafe, hazardous, or emergency situations using our Hazard and Incident Reporting Processes
  • Appropriately use equipment or substances and report all property maintenance
  • Perform the duties of the First Aid Officer and Emergency Warden when on duty

Other duties may be required as directed

What we need you to have to be considered for this role:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services – Student Residential Care, or a willingness to commence studies
  • Valid Working with Children Card in the relevant state or the ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Current Bus License – for Light Rigid vehicles (up to 25 seats) or be willing to obtain one

To be considered for this role, we would like you to have; A good understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures, and have the ability to communication effectively and sensitively. You will require demonstrated experience in designing and participating in youth activities supporting their social and educational development. WHS is paramount in this role, including child protection.
