Position Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient, effective, and compliant day-to-day management of the organisation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will lead the operational activities of the organisation, ensuring that all programs, services, and business functions align with the corporation’s vision and strategic objectives. The role requires a leader who can drive operational excellence while overseeing compliance, asset management, human resources, and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day corporation operations, including the development and implementation of operational strategies, policies and procedures to ensure efficient and quality program and service provision.
- In consultation with the CEO and Executive Management Team, develop, implement and monitor the Strategic Plan and annual Corporate Plans.
- Provide effective leadership, motivation and guidance to senior managers, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all operations comply with relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks, and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies or corrective actions where necessary.
- Provide high level oversight of recruitment, professional training and development strategies, to ensure all sections of the corporation attract and retain high performing, inclusive and diverse talented teams.
- Work in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and monitor asset investment and management controls to maintain appropriate quality and safe service levels.
- Promote a customer-centric approach that supports cultural safety, respect and transparency.
- Develop, strengthen and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders, customers, clients and members of the community.
- Monitor and evaluate the corporation’s activities and performance to ensure performance is aligned with the Strategic Plan, including development of performance metrics and reporting systems to track progress and implement operational improvements.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection Criteria:
- Extensive senior executive leadership experience with demonstrated operational and strategic management skills, including critical thinking, problem solving abilities and political acumen.
- Demonstrated success in the effective management of human and financial resources, in relation to delivering high quality services and outcomes within a not-for-profit environment.
- Highly developed project management skills and abilities and a proven record of managing high-value grant funded activites.
- Established skills in cultivating productive working relationships and leadership of diverse teams to achieve outcomes while creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and mutual respect.
- High-level communication and negotiation skills, with a record of successful change management.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
- Well-developed legislative and regulatory literacy, and an ability to develop and implement sound risk management frameworks.
Working Arrangements:
This is a casual labour hire arrangement offering a competitive hourly rate of $101.21 per hour. The role is based in Darwin, NT, working within a supportive and dynamic team environment.
